"Isn’t Rennie Ellis lucky! He goes to more parties than you, me, and practically anyone else. It’s his job, you see . . . or at least one of the many jobs of this multi-media chameleon. He gets paid to take pictures at swell parties, balls and bar mitzvahs, dinners and discos, openings and closings, and ‘we’re still here’ parties. And when he is not being paid, he takes them anyway. You will probably see more flesh than you can stand in this paean of pulchritude, this fanfare of fun, this roll call of rort, this . . . ah well, this collection from an apparently inexhaustible supply of eye-popping pictures. The man who enshrined beach and beer brings you . . . Life’s a Ball."
Bio:
"Rennie Ellis’s photographs and articles have appeared in major Australian and overseas magazines, and he has written and directed several documentary films. His books, which include two for children, have been published in England, Switzerland, and Denmark as well as in Australia, and include subjects as diverse as graffiti, Bali, railway stations, and Kings Cross. He is a contributing editor to Australian Playboy, a social diarist for Mode magazine, and the director of Scoopix Photo Library. His photographs have won a United Nations award and are included in the collections of the Australian National Gallery and the Bibliothèque Nationale in Paris. He sees himself as a compulsive chronicler of both popular culture and the demi-monde, and as such cherishes his work as an avenue to ‘new adventures and new friends.’ Life’s a Ball is a follow-up to the best-selling Life’s a Beach and Life’s a Beer." — Life's a Ball, 1985.
